i think you can get further in a debate with a christian, although its still not very far. its slightly more worthwhile
why do muslims often give more generic (and pasted) responses than christians?

because msot of the time they are taught by rote, the usual rehearsed answers and questions, and it carries over to the internet
When i see answers like those above, i think to myself, why is it that when a Muslim, a person who follows Islam, speaks in defense of his/herself and other followers, they are ignored and deemed radicals and supporters of terrorism. But when others speak ill of this religion, it is considered only as someone's right to speak freely, and not racism? Don't Muslims have a right to speak freely also? It is against law to be racist, but people are doing it all the time, and even more people are passing it off, and do not call it racism, but a lecture against the evil of the world. Fighting back terrorism with debate and discussion, peace, they say. if that is the case, then racism does not exist then. Anyone could say they are doing so in the name of justice and to rid the world of troublesome people, and use that as an excuse. It gets extremely tiring hearing and seeing this everywhere I go. As for the fact that Muslims hate cripples....where the heck did THAT come from??? And i am speaking this as a Christian, I beleive Muslims are being judged by the world too quickly without looking at their side of the story... all i advise is for you to be fair, and step into their shoes for awhile. That was a hasty generalisation. Rude.
Muslims are instructed to read the Qur'an in Arabic, even if they don't understand what they're reading. Many Muslims don't even know what their religion says, they just partake in the customs and traditions involved. This is why so many can claim that Islam doesn't stand for violence and intolerance and sexism while maintaining a straight face.
I slightly agree with Aron. A good deal of the time I feel they really don't know what they believe but give canned responses. A few, not all. I mean look at their prayer life. What? 3 times a day and they say the same things over and over? They may as well be praying the rosary. I hate to say it, but God means for us to have a personal relationship with him.
