when i burn a movie onto dvd form our hard drive recorder and then later try to play it in my computers dvd player it doesn't play properly. it will play for a few minutes and then glitch. but when i put the same dvd into my mothers computer it plays perfectly. why is this and what can i do about it?

i burn the DVDs on a sony hdc100
the dvd player/burner on my computer is an external samsung dvd writer (MODEL SE - S084)
my mothers computer is a COMPAQ and has an in built dvd player

the software i use on my computer is VLC media player
and the software on my mothers computer is HD DVD PLAY

The dvd player and laptop are probably playing them in a different format, you have to get video encoding software in order for it to play in a dvd player.
A popular one is BlazeVideo Video Magic.http://www.blazevideo.com/videomagic/

Or you can do like I did at get a dvd player that supports playback of windows avi, mpeg, mp3, wmv, etc.

maybe the question is about the player, why not think about to change a software, i advise you to use the DVD x player,DVD X Player supports recording DVD as various popular movie files to expand your multimedia entertainment on most popular portable devices (Apple iPod, iPhone, Sony PSP, Zune, BlackBerry, Zen, Smart Phone, PMP etc.).and i think it will help you,and you can learn more details at www.dvd-x-player.com
