Why do my dogs whine and whimper for food, when there's a full bowl of it...

...right in front of them? My dogs always scratch at the bowls and whine when the food is right in front of them.

that could be their way of actually telling you that they dont like the food that they are being fed, try adding a different food to the one they are on now and if you find they stop doing it and start to eat their food gradually fade the old food out over a few weeks.

Since the food is in front of them and they still whine, as if wanting something??? Could it be that they do not like the food and want something else?

Also, how can you be sure that the whine and whimper is for food?

Try to think about some other reasons for the whining. Only you will be able to diagnose the problem since you are there and see all the behavior.
