questions about religion? I have been raised christian, but have not even started reading the bible until recently. I asked my dad why we cut our hair, eat shrimp, and do a couple other things that it says we are not supposed to do. He then asked the question to my preacher, which said that those scriptures are not meant to be taken literally, and are open for interpretation. How can "Leviticus 19:27 ESV / 63 helpful votes

You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard.", be interpreted as we don't really have to do it? HERE'S WHERE I'M REALLY CONFUSED: If something as simple as not cutting your hair can be actively ignored even by the pope, then why is something so crazy as circumcision not ignored? Why can my parents cut their hair but they had to cut off part of my penis as a baby? I have been doing research and science says that the foreskin is definetley there for a reason. Why would you even considering circumcision for your child?

Sorry that you have been given false information. All of the practices you mention were Old Testament teachings for an ancient society.None of them were taught by Jesus and therefore Christians do not have to follow them. One more example of the liberating nature of Christianity !:applause:

Christianity is nonsense, the sooner you learn that the better.

like they said, it can be taken not literally. The concepts that were acceptable back then are different now. And youre not a doctor lol, but the foreskin doesnt cause any side effects that are noticeable.
