Why do people get pets?

Don't get me wrong, I ? animals! I have two cats, Angelo and Gabriel, and I love them so much!
I'm just curious to know. Both dogs and cats generate SO many expenses, they take up your time, and it's like having never aging babies. Obviously, there are way more pros than cons! But, if life is so much "easier" without having pets, why can't we live without them? What's your personal reason for having pets? And what kind of pets do you have?

Animals are my life. I am very glad that you respect animals too! This is a very good question indeed. I can not see myself without animals. I have many, which include 2 dogs, 2 birds, 2 lizards, 2 rats, 1 rabbit, and a turtoise. I suppose you could say that i am drawn to them. I buy them on impulse. 2 of my animals are rescued animals, that i had to get becuase i know that they would come to a good home if they were with me. I love my animals alot. They mean alot to me. I can see little personalities in each of them. I like to study the bond and attachment between me and my animals. Sure my animals come with A LOT of expenses, but in the long run it was all worth it. Its just fasinating to watch something grow as you raise it, and become a perfect little pet or buddy to you. This is just my experience with it, but there are many other reasons why people have pets.
