Why do people like to sit low in a car?

I prefer to sit high with the steering wheel tilted up. I want to be eye level above the hood and not below or with the hood. Driving is serious and not some show-off fashion statement.
 
Well if you drive close to your stirring wheel and end up in a car crash, your face is going to be smashed on the wheel. Not even race car drivers drive high and close.
