Atheism is not the worship of the devil, its not anti-religion, it doesn't hurt anyone... Why are so many people so offensive and rude to Atheists?

I was raised Catholic, I went to church every sunday, I went to religion classes every wednesday, and I was confirmed to make my dad happy. But I don't believe in god. So don't say that I'm atheist just because I "don't know" about Christianity. I know all about it- and that's why I don't believe in it.
So I'd like legitimate, thought out answers please. Telling me that I'm atheist because I'm stupid and arrogant is just proving my point that atheists are treated so stupidly and arrogantly!

Well, I could say something about a correlation between nonreligiousness and education, but I think you already know what I would say.

In case you don't: Religion has a demonstrable negative correlation with the amount of education you have, and people who don't have an education are more liable to say stupid things.

Carl Sagan once said that the trouble with this world is that the idiots are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.

So then you're saying that atheists are pro-religion? This has not been my experience with most atheists on this site, but if it makes you feel better, ok.

They're simple minded, they think just because you're not with them your against them.

Q&A Queen: You've shown your simple mindedness by basing all atheists off of ones that come to YA

I asked a question on a similar topic not too long ago. You might be interested in looking at the answers.

Most religion is delusive nonsense. Any rational person should be anti-delusion. This is even more true for religion, with the overwhelmingly negative affect most religions have on the world.

(By anti-religion, I assume you mean overly critical of religion.)
I would say people think atheists are anti-religion because there are always a few people out there who ruin it for an entire demographic (like some of the people on here...)
Just like Christians don't like atheism shoved down their throat, Atheists don't like religion being forced upon them. Don't be offended by other people's generalizations, they're just ignorant (Believe me, I see a LOT of generalizations as a vegetarian...)

to certain extent the atheism truly is anti religious.
when it comes to secular goverments, you have to be anti religious to prevent religious organisations fro infiltering the goveerment and destroying its secular foundations.

Because those who think that have absolutely NO understanding of what atheism is. They also seem to assume that atheism means we don't believe in their personal deity and don't realise it means we don't believe in ANY deities.

And, Q&A Queen. Any atheist who believes religion should be banned is an idiot.

If you read what atheists write about religion, they view it as the scourge of the planet and the reason why millions have been killed. Atheists use that reasoning to justify attacking the religious, as if atheists have a humanitarian purpose when atheists state that life has no purposes, and life is an evolutionary accident without meaning.
