Why do people think Christ died for us when it was the Romans that killed him?

He didn't request to be killed by the Romans he was simply killed as were all the others.

Jesus could have asked God to save Him from being murdered but He chose not to so that his torture could be remembered with an eternal symbolic significance;"He died as a sacrifice for our sins".

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
