Why do so many Christian argument responses include scripture references?

can't you think for yourselves?
@Wisdom
I thought the bible WAS sexist, and racist, and genocidal, and infanticide, and slave hoarding...

Because Christians Don't wan't you to think that this is an opinion or that they are making it up, So they include their references. So that in this way the person listening can search it up and see that the person is telling the truth.

What a catch-22. If I talk about it, then it's just my opinion, right?
I'd say 'cute', but it's not, it's 'smart' though, in the real meaning.

Thinking for themselves would go against the true meaning of Christianity: Brainwashing.

because that's what they're arguing for. Obviously, they're going to want to back up their side of the argument with "proof" and documentation.

Because the Bible is the reference text for Christians.

If you needed to bolster an argument about the meaning
of a word, you would look it up in the dictionary, and
quote that as your reference.

The words of Scripture are the very words of God Himself. Sure, we can think for ourselves, the problem is that all the thoughts of men are vanity and wickedness. Only God's thoughts are pure and holy and right.

Because you cant count I guess, I mostly see well thought out answers with no scripture references by Christians..

Because many of your arguements towards us, is about how the bible is wrong, sexist, racist, contradictory, supportive of slavery, etc. These questions require scriptures, because you are attacking the Bible, so we will use the Bible to show you you misunderstand.

You cannot attack the Bible, and ask for no scriptures. It's impossible. For how can we show you the bible is not sexist, and is not racist, if we don't show you the passages that state women are equal, or all races are equal?

Because that is where our faith springs from. That is the authority for our gift of faith. God speaks through the bible, very clearly at times.

On the main issues of life, the true mature Christian does not have a personal opinion for he is absorbing bible truths and principles - and finding that they work in every day life.

He has developed belief in the power of Bible teaching, a power which can be tapped, for it is a living book, meaning, that accepting its positive truths is empowering - the source of the power is God himself. This is the power of faith, which can move obstacles (mountains Jesus called obstacles)

There is teaching in the bible that can free up latent or suppressed abilities in a person.
Verses in the Bible act like keys - to a freer life, a more peaceful or joyful life, a more successful life etc. And so we joyfully quote scripture!

Scripture is like sweet medicine to the soul - but you have to DRINK it in, digest it!

Stupid question. If a question involves knowledge of Christ or christianity in general, did you think we would not quote scripture? I believe God. The bible is for our learning. How can anyone learn if they do not read, and by sharing the scriptures with others it might, just might, lead someone to want to know more about the God of Glory.

It's all they have... sadly... and many, apparently, have lost the ability to talk for themselves or put it in their own words...
