Why do so many Christians think the Catholics are not Christian?

And if they think that Catholics are not Christians what do they think they are instead. I was raised Catholic and though I do not any longer consider myself part of that religion I do think they are Christians and I have never understood why others don't. Can someone please explain it to me?
And I am well aware of what pagan means.
Leo- Catholics do not believe in multiple gods.
Christine- The Catholics also do not worship Mary (they respect her the same way I am sure you respect your mother, but you do not worship her). I am not sure what you mean by icons as I a certain I have never worshiped one. And the first Pope was Peter Jesus' "Rock" and the one most trusted and closest to Jesus the one most likely to know his word.
Oh and I certainly was never molested as a child growing up in the Catholic church. I am sure that a Protestant pastor somewhere has molested a child as well. Christine, you make it sound like Catholicism is comparable to NAMBLA, which is far from the case.
I can understand the issues with baby baptism and confession. I do know that Catholics baptize babies so that they won't go to hell because of original sin (I am not saying I agree, I am just stating the reason).
Gnostic- So true. Thanks for the thumbs up. I gave you one too!

Those christians are the extremists.

Everyone else is wrong and only THEY and ther denomination and their little CHURCH is the most correct, holiest and the best.

They are like frogs in a well, living in their own small world, forgetting that there are hundreds of other religions out there and they fail to realise that NO ONE RELIGION/denomination holds the entire truth.

Many people and entities have classified catholicism as its own religion because it is different than protestantism and other such categories. The category for CHRISTIAN Ive noticed is simply to say either non-denom or just in general Christian.

Or do you mean born again people rejecting catholicism as a valid Christian path? If so, some people do on the grounds that they were never baptized according to the NT. The NT calls for a believers baptism and a baby cannot believe. But Im not that legalistic. I think Catholics are Christians. Some arent. Many are.

They have different practices. It's true that Catholocism is different from Christianity. Even the Bibles are different. The Christian sticks with the 66 book canon whereas the Catholics (I'm not sure how much) have more books. Christians are baptized when they are ready to devote their lives to Christ, Catholics are baptized when they are babies. (personally i don't think that's right because baptism is a sacred symbol that we must choose, and baptizing a baby will not save it, nor will it insures its unwavering faith in Christ.) Catholics have confession (again, i think that's wrong because a mortal man cannot forgive you in the name of God, that forgiveness is done only by God's grace.) In short, Catholicism is a religion with the same beliefs of Christianity, but a big difference in practices. People dont THINK christians are'nt catholic, they KNOW.

Only in America

According to SOME American Protestants the 3 Abrahamic religions are Judaism, Islam & Protestantism

Catholicism to THEM is some form of Pagan Pope/Mary/Saints/Idol worshipping cult

catholocism is based on pagan beliefs. pagan is belief in multiple gods like mars and venus. thats all i need to know. Christian means disciple of Christ, Christ does not teach belief in multiple gods, not by a long shot

Hey!
I gave you a thumbs up for the last question you answered; the guy who gave you thumbs down was a sick hombre.

Catholics Monks were responsible for copying preserving, and protecting the bible all through the rugged era of the Middle ages; without the Catholics, the bible as we know it would be lost.
While other denominations condemn Catholics, they don't realize that the Bible they use today was compilled by the Catholic church.
Catholics have come a long way from the Middle Ages; some of the wicked things the Popes did are not to be admired but the mere fact that the church survived the Middle Ages may be proof that they were truly protectors of the faith.
Like them oh hate them; they deserve recognition.

What irritates me is the fact that these people do not seem to know that Catholicism was around first. And that most branches of Christianity are based around it, but altered by people over the centuries because they found bits of Catholicism that they didn't like.

I'm sure the majority of Christians think Catholics are Christians. I'm not catholic, but I've been to their masses and definitely consider them Christian. They believe in the Trinity and the Bible as God's word to us.

Catholic means universal and all Christians have Catholic roots. Personally, I prefer different worship styles to that of Catholics.

They are a pedophile organization - happen to be the largest & most funded too. They worship icons and this Mary figure when the Bible sanctions no such thing. They listen to a man (a pope) who adds works of his own and stands on a pulpit that God never granted him. The "catholic" church promotes tradition rather than encouraging a firm relationship with Christ. The "catholics" also reject the Authorized KJV Bible.
