Why do so many of my brothers in Christ believe in a 6000 year old earth?

And further, why make such a big deal about it? I personally believe that God created the earth over six long ages and that each day in Genesis a metaphor for a long period of time.

Congratulations, not only is your answer 100% irrelevant to my question, but your analogy also makes no sense what so ever, and still doesn't make sense even if Christianity has no truth at all. You're a real intellectual.

Well, how long is a day? Seems Genesis 1 went out of it's way to show a day is 24 hours.
Millions of years? God's Word is clear that man did not evolve, but what did Jesus actually say? Did He give us some kind of "out" that we might be able to believe that a day was possibly millions of years and that man evolved a relatively short time ago? No. Jesus put a stake in the heart of evolution when He said of the creation of man:

"But from the beginning of the creation God 'made them male and female'. "
~Mark 10:6

So how old is man?

Yes, each day could have been 1000 years. The Bible tells us one day with God is 1000 years to us, so that would mean 6000 years to create the heavens and the earth, and 5000+ additional years since then.

2019 - 3019 = 7000 year = "4Then I saw (H)thrones, and (I)they sat on them, and (J)judgment was given to them And I saw (K)the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their (L)testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not (M)worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the (N)mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they (O)came to life and (P)reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
