Why do so many people complain about trans fat so much?

I mean, I hear and see so many hypocrites. They say one thing and just do another. I hear other people say trans fat is bad for you. Yet, when they are having a bad day the first thing that goes in there mouth is not an apple but a honey bun, or some cake or pizza instead which is full of partially hydrogenated oil/ another word for trans fat how amusing! What do you the yahoo community think about this?

At "least" people are *finally* discussing trans fats. Why is it allowed to still be in our food supply??

Then there is the confusion about saturated fats (and naturally occurring trans fats) falling into the same realm as man made chemically altered fats (trans fats from hydrogenated oils) which they alter unsaturated fats to make them more like saturated fats that are stable and don't become rancid the way unsaturated (vegetable oils) oils can.

People hear about transfats being toxic so they buy more "fat free" products, not understanding that the healthy fats have been removed & replaced with sugar & starches.

Transfats (other than naturally occurring) are a man made chemically altered hydrogenated oil. Oils are partially hydrogenated to make them solid, shelf stable and so they won't go rancid. This is a man made process that converts a food to a toxin, much akin to refined sugar, refined salt & fluoridated water.

Saturated fats are naturally occurring fats in animal foods & coconuts.

The link between saturated fats and heart health is based on faulty science but very few are willing to contradict the long standing edict. Both cholesterol and saturated fat are essential for growth in babies and children, especially the development of the brain. Still, the American Heart Association recommends a low-cholesterol, lowfat diet for children & adults.

Saturated fats may not be considered as yet an essential fat required for life but natural breast milk is 50% of it's calories from fat & half of it is saturated fat (half saturated & half oleic acid) for infants surely nature can't be wrong.

per the link below:

Infants and growing children, benefit from more fat in the diet rather than less.

* Saturated fatty acids constitute at least 50% of the cell membranes. They are what gives our cells necessary stiffness and integrity.

* They play a vital role in the health of our bones. For calcium to be effectively incorporated into the skeletal structure, at least 50% of the dietary fats should be saturated.

* They lower Lp(a), a substance in the blood that indicates proneness to heart disease. They protect the liver from alcohol and other toxins, such as Tylenol.

* They enhance the immune system.

* They are needed for the proper utilization of essential fatty acids.
Elongated omega-3 fatty acids are better retained in the tissues when the diet is rich in saturated fats.

* Saturated 18-carbon stearic acid and 16-carbon palmitic acid are the preferred foods for the heart, which is why the fat around the heart muscle is highly saturated. The heart draws on this reserve of fat in times of stress.

* Short- and medium-chain saturated fatty acids have important antimicrobial properties. They protect us against harmful microorganisms in the digestive tract.
