Why do some cellphone headphones have one earbud wire longer than the other?

In most of all of the cellphone headphones I've bought, mainly all have one earbud wire longer than the other. What is this meant for?
 
It was meant to go behind you neck so that it hangs at your neck instead of falling when you take them out.
