Why do some Germans give you a smarty reply when you greet with "Grüß Gott"...

Why do some Germans give you a smarty reply when you greet with "Grüß Gott"...

...instead of "Guten Tag"? Such as "when I see Him" or whatever. Aren't they used to hearing it from the Austrians and Bavarians by now?

because people don't really use that anymore, unless you're really old and stuck in the past.
