Why do you believe / disbelieve the End Times (“Armageddon”) prophecy?

Please don’t say “because there’s no evidence” or “there’s lots of evidence” or “because I don’t believe” or “because my holy book says so”. These terms are simply too ambiguous and uninformative to make sense of. I am hoping for comprehensive, factual, plausible, considered answers. Thank-you for taking the time out to answer me, I appreciate your efforts…

I believe.

First let me say that all prophecy was given to the Jews in what we call the Old Testament. When Jesus came to earth it says he came unto His own, and His own received him not. I say this to show you that Jesus came to fulfill the prophecy written to the Jews. While here on earth he told the Jews that judgement was coming upon their generation. He also told his deciples that he would destroy the Temple that the Jews sacrificed in. When Jesus said this to his deciples they asked when would these things be and when the end of the world would happen. Jesus told them it would happen in their generation. One more thing here, world was not refering to the earth it was the age that they were living in that they were asking about. The end of that age, Law, happened in 70 AD when Jesus did what he said he would do, and that was to destroy the Temple and Jerusalem.

All of the above is truth and agrees with the Bible. Josephus was a Jew and a Pharisee who was in Jerusalem at the time of the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. You can read his account of this event at:

Some people will say that the Book of Revelation hasn't happened. But it was written to the 7 churches of Asia telling them that the prophecy written in the Old Testament was about to happen. Jesus repeatedly said throughout the book "I come quickly"

The prophecies in Revelation were expected to happen within the lifetimes of those living at the time, the 1st or 2nd century CE, followed by 1,000 years. They just didn't happen, although believers push them further and further into the future to other times, when they continue not to happen.

I believe in it because it is already written. It will come to passed.

Whatever God said, it will happened. See everything God's wonderful creations around you.

God said, let there be light... and there was light... etc etc.

yes, i do.
reason: it is prophesied in the Bible, which i believe is God Word.
Furthermore, every other prophesy up until this time has been fulfilled, all of the great empires were prophesied in the Bible and have some to pass, so I have no reason to believe that Armageddon will not.

read Daniel chapter 2. In it, God prophesid through the prophet Daniel about future world powers.

"You, O king, were looking and then, there was a single great statue; that statue, which was large and of extraordinary splendor, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was awesome.
Statue. "The head of that statue was made of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.
Stone. "You continued looking until a stone was cut out without hands, and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and crushed them. "Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were crushed all at the same time and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them was found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. (Daniel 2: 31-35)

This prophesy was made during the Babylonian period.
Each part of the statue is a symbol for all the future great kingdoms of the world.

Head of gold = kingdom of Babylon - fulfilled
Chest of Silver = Medo-Persian empire - fulfilled
belly an thighs of bronze = Greece - fulfilled
Legs of Iron = Rome - fulfilled
Feet of Iron and clay = Europe and the modern Powers - partly fulfilled, this is the current period of time

The Stone = this is a symbol for Christ, who will return at Armegeddon, and whose kingdon will be greater than all earthly powers of history.

Because all of the other prophesied kingdoms in this prophesy have come true, I think it would be foolish to ignore the last one. There are many other prophesies in the Bible that are smilar to this one. All have come to pass except those of the end times. I believe that those will also come to pass in the future.

Here is a useful webpage about this Daniel prophesy that you may want to look at -

Thank you for asking a not ridiculous, accusatory question like so many other people in R+S.
It is a relief to find that there are still intelligent people on here.

Comprehensive: Theories of the universe - suggest a continuing process of creation and destruction and that includes the "times" we are present to. Factual. Actually, this one is hard since time is not a fact. Our perceptions impose the idea of time. So, just we create the idea of time, we can, if we wish, create the idea of End Times. Plausible. See #1. Considered. This is the best I can do. Sorry if it is unsatisfying.

When I was growing up, the things in the verses below ere unheard of, now today they describe the world to a "t". Among other scriptures and bible prophecies.

(2 Timothy 3:1-3) But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2*For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3*having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness,

Well factual stuff, start of 2013 might see a large Solar flare that might knock out power stations and fry your equipment, not exactly "Armageddon" is it.

Because everything else in the Bible has come true so why shouldn't the end? Jesus came exactly as was prophesized. He will come again exactly as it is written. Probably not the answer you want, but that's the one I believe in. If you can't comprehend that, then read the news and compare it with the Bible.

Romans chapters 9-11 are the key passages absolutely.

Yes, these are the last days prior to Christ's coming.

Outline is....

1. Israel back in the land...
2. Apostasy in the church....
3. A limited nuclear war and at the same time the rapture of the church....
4. Israel and the anti-Christ sign a peace treaty to end the nuclear war....
5. peace and prosperity for 3.5 years until Russia moves in on the Middle East.
6. 3.5 years of utter chaos
7. Christ returns literally.

BTW, the temple will be built beside the Dome of the Rock, the Old Temple footings are between the Dome of the Rock and Solomon's stables.

Trust Him, His Name Is Jesus.

People that say the end time events was written for the 1st-2nd century are very wrong. The Bible is very clear that these events wouldn't happen until there existed a country called Israel which was settled by Israelis. This didn't happen until 1948! Also, in the end times, there exist instant mass communication, the ability to have a global govt, certain geographical makeups of large region-states, like the EU, which is another thing that is predicted. None of those could have happened until last century. The idea that was told to the people then was that is could happen anytime...so people thought it could happen immediately.

Also, besides the stage being set with those predictions (which would be laughed at even in 1940), there are also another few that are important. The Bible predicted a religion that hadn't yet made it way on the stage...Islam. It is recorded that people in the Middle East will form some type of Islamic confederation that will fight with Russia against the EU (or revived Roman Empire). Also, a large country (China) is also spoke of coming from the east. (Most people would guess that the future problem is the lack of oil, and China, Russia, EU, and Muslim confederation are all after it. (it seems the world is divided up amongst these)
There will also be a new universal religion (which it sounds incredibly like what we believe today) We call it secular humanism...or looking only to yourself for the answer (reread the serpent in the Garden of Eden where he tells Eve she can be "like God.")
