Why does he not call it by its older name?

The Anglo Iranian Oil Company.

Surely that is easier to foment Xenophobia and hatred!
England AND Muslims ! Ooooh! Scary stuff!


By the way, I had a job before the US ruined the world economy. I want my life back!

Part of BP was the old American Standard Oil or Amoco before BP bought it out. I;m sure if it was still Amoco, it would be getting a lot of flak from Americans, and if it were in another country, absolutely from them.

The thing is, today, it is BP and that is what the company is that is involved in the oil spill, not Anglo Iranian or Amoco, or whatever. I never heard of Anglo Iranian, so I don't know about it. '

What is going on is very serious. I hope nobody is blaming British people on the street, or ordinary people who have nothing to do with this disaster, but the company has to be held responsible, regardless of nationality. 11 people died in the explosion and thousands have their lives ruined since they can't fish for a living,etc.

How would calling it by an old name that most people don't know help? Iran has nothing to do with this in any way. We have enough problems in that part of the world without them being involved in this.

BP stands for British Petroleum. The original name was British Petroleum abbreviated to BP at almost all times. When they changed the name to simply BP, the intention was clearly to retain the link to the previous name of British Petroleum. They could have thought up an entirely new name, but they didn't. They might have wished they did, but it is too late they will be going bust soon.

Why shouldn't he rant on about it? Twenty billion is not enough to clean up this mess, and it is owned by BP. Everyone lost because Goldman-Sachs sold about 50,000 shares of stock in it two days before the rig blew up. BP knew the rig was not built correctly and was damaged by hurricane Ida, but they had a deadline to meet when building the thing, so they hurried up the building and did not do it correctly. We are in for a long haul with the people whose livelihood it killed from the ocean, the animals, the fish, the environment. Twenty billion is a drop in the bucket comparatively, considering the damage it has done to the environment and people's jobs and lives.
