Why does an object travel faster at a higher height than a lower height?

We have to make a report for Science on an experiment we did in class timing a marble travelling down a ramp and changing the height to see how this would affect the time the marble took to travel. The report has a list of points to make and you have to give a conclusion that is consistent with your results using scientific ideas. So basically I need to know why an object travels faster at a higher height than a lower height :P (e.g. a rollercoaster because that is our topic we are working on.)
