Why does business breed political conservatism, while Hollywood breeds political

liberalism? Yes, slight generalizations. And let's avoid the "lazy liberals" nonsense - both of those sectors yield high-income people who pay more under progressive taxation. There are plenty of hard workers in both sectors. So why do you think that nearly all top Hollywood executives and actors are staunchly liberal, while nearly all top Fortune 500 CEOs are staunchly conservative?

It makes sense for corporations to be Republicans....as Republicans always pay them more, while shorting the middle class: Bloomberg reports that, according to recently released IRS data, “the average tax rate paid by the richest 400 Americans fell by a third to 17.2 percent through the first six years of the Bush administration and their average income doubled to $263.3 million".

Hollywood celebrities have always been more socially liberal, as they don't agree with the "Christian Conservative' viewpoint.

Fortune 500 companies are just listed there for their huge revenue, not for actually being profitable. So it's not really something to brag about. Id say a lot of the guys in the top ten or 20 of the Fortune 500 list are there because it's mostly oil companies and automakers. Conservative means you dont want things to change, you like the old ways, and want to conserve them. If I made my living from making carppy old cars and sucking fossil fuels out of the ground, Id be afraid of change too.

You can survive as a liberal running a business. you would give too much away.

and you can't survive as a conservative in the film industry. you would charge too much for your product.

Oh, and the ones out there with the millions don't care what they do really, and liberals support legalization. I do too though.

Are you talking about the actor that makes 15 million per film compared to the light boy the makes $15 per hour?

All in all, it's the same thing. Even worse in Hollywood.

I'd guess it's because of background..

It's unlikely that somebody will rise from the poor to become a CEO of a major corporation..

Since most the populace is middle class.. It's likely Hollywood, who relies on mostly looks/charm/natural ability will find that within the majority/mid class..

I'd assume that actors/actresses came from hard times and can understand..
CEO's? I'm doubting it...

Nichole Richie once said.... That she never realized there were poor living in the U.S. That she thought everybody lived just like her.. Just an example.. People live in their area, and turn a blind eye to others...

I work in the film industry, as you know, and I run into far more staunch conservatives in the "biz" than you would ever begin to realize. It's just that the liberals in Hollywood are the vocal ones. The ones who crunch the numbers, stick to the budgets, calculate the profits and maximize the returns are conservatives, and without them, there would be no money for the next multi-million-dollar googleplex movie.

Nearly all top Hollywood execs are staunchly liberal? Think again. Michael Eisner thought he was a Democrat, as did many others such as Brandon Tartikoff. They really weren't. That was the late '80s/early '90s. They were not replaced with people who were much more "liberal" than they were, believe me.
