why does my bmw 320d (2005) steering wheel vibrate at certain speeds....

...Normally at about 30mph, then at 60mph? The vibration is more like a wobble and forces me to change my speed. I'm thinking of taking it in to have the wheel balance tested. There are no obvious deformities on the tyres, which are not old. Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks

Wooble is usually tire balance or worse scenario a bearing. Try the wheel balancing and have them check the bearings when the wheels are off. If the balancing does not work could be anything from your bearings, to your u joint on the steering. Usually the tire balancing will do the trick. GOOD LUCK............IF your vibration is worse at 50 miles/hour than any other speed is your tires that need balancing. Physics simply physics, think force of gravity and rotation.
