why does my car engine shut off by itself and the check engine light still on?

i have a newer car and just recently while i was in park the engine just turned off by itself. i turned it back on and the check engine light went one and the car wont stay on for too long but will turn back on for a short amount of time, then shut out all together.everything else works fine except for that
