Why does my dvd player drawer keep opening and closing?

I have a LG RC278 DVD/video combo which I have had for about 2 years, hardly used, however now the CD/DVD drawer opens and closes all the time, I have trouble getting any DVD to play when I do I have to hold down the play button and the drawer goes in and out till it eventually plays. The drawer opens and closes when there is nothing in the drawer as well as when I try and play anything. Its very frustrating, any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.
