Why does my one year old dog walk around with his toy and whine all the time?

He got a new toy (one of those as seen on tv crazy critters), and seemed to really love it. Now he's attached to it and whines a lot while he drags it around the apartment. I took it away and he looked for it a while but eventually gave up and he doesn't whine now. Just wondering why all the whining.

Update: Haha Okay, maybe I should rephrase. I do play with him and the toy but he's constantly whining during play time. Whining during tug of war, whining while he is chasing the toy, whining when he is bringing it back to me. I have just never seen him do this is any other toy. Thanks everyone! ;)

Our Jasmine will do that when she finds a glove or a sock that she wants to bury but cannot because no place to do so indoors.

Our dog does that with bones we were told he wants to hide it, but does not want anyone to see where! Since you did the hiding he will be cool until he finds it than it will start over again. i have experienced this when I moved a chair and forgot I had hid 1 there!

I think these people do not have a dog doing this at all!
Dogs love to dig and bury things. He has something he likes and wants to protect and hide. You are in an apartment which I am sure you do not have dirt floors. Where than is he to hide it he is wondering and searching and whining help me help me hide my treasure!

Sarah, this person seems to be concerned with a behavior she hasn't seen in her dog before. This is no place for you to ridicule someone else for a question they have. Grow up.
