why does my truck die after i switch fuel tanks?

i have an 87 chevy truck with duel tanks and when i flip to the passenger tank it dies instantly

Adding to what Dave already stated; failing sub-tank pump or blocked inner tank filter.

I'm assuming its TBI .bad fuel pump?
