why does the gearbox on my car make a whining noise?

now my question in a little more detail! :) i have a ford fiesta 1.25 zetec and i have noticed in 1st and 2nd the gears seem to whine i know this is normal because a lot of petrol fords seem to do this but i was just wondering if one of you technical people out there could explain why it does it i know about straight cut gears but i think the forwards ones are helical but yeh thanks for your help in advance! :D

The noise you hear is the lay-shaft bearings where the forward part of the shaft is in need of extra lubrication. Use an gearbox additive with PTFE. Your gearbox has a long way to go before it dies.
