Why doesn't my computer browse the internet even though the connection is working?

I've been having trouble w/ my computer for the past 4 months due to a virus. I've tried almost everything to fix the problem but nothing works. Last night I logged on to the internet and it was working fine nut i just got home from school and the cpu does not browse the internet windows. The only way I can get in is thorugh "search"... what can I do?
 
Get Spybot S&D -- I've had issues similar to this one and Spybot seemed to do the trick. You may ultimately need to reinstall the OS though.
