Why don't shy guys like talking/texting for long?

Theres a shy guy that likes me... and it seems whenever i text him he will text back 2-3 times and have to go. Like whenever the slightest bit of awkwardness... or anything, he just bails.

Why is this? Are they afraid of saying the wrong thing or something?
