Why don't they get rid of rounds in the UFC?

I'm so sick of watching boring fights only to see the fighters dancing around and hugging each other at the end after fighting to a decision. If it goes to decision, I at least want to see that the guys have expended all their energy. MMA fighters are getting into such great physical shape these days. They're even making the 5 round fights look easy. My solution: Get rid of the rounds. Make the fighters fight 15 straight minutes or 25 straight minutes for championships. The more aggressive fighter will be rewarded because they'll have more uninterrupted opportunities to finish the fight. Its also more similar to a real fight.

what do you think they are. robots?

would you be able to fight non-stop for 25 minutes. no.

they may be great physically but the fight would be terrible with no rounds as they wouldn't be allowed to catch their breath and would just be exhausted and therefore not put as much power in moves.

getting rid of rounds will make the fights less aggressive as they will tire out more quickly, it wont make it more aggressive

Trust me, I have seen 15 and 30 minute no round fights.

You don't want it to go there, See Ken Shamrock vs. Dan Severn 2, the Superfight with Shamrock vs. Gracie.

You think it is boring with decisions now, wait till you see someone holding guard for an hour with nothing happening. Or like Sakuraba vs. Gracie... you see two people just get to the point of exhaustion that neither of them is really doing anything.

Aside from the fact you would ruin the sanctioning aspect, you would also ultimately end up with WAY more boring fights.

A better idea would be to institute the penalty card rule they used in Pride. Refs in Pride could pull a penalty card if they felt someone was stalling or being inactive which took 10% off their purse.

With no rounds, you would have people pace themselves even more, the first 5 minutes of a match would be extremely slow, and horrible to watch.

I understand what you are saying, I think something needs to be done to prevent the "fighting not to lose" type of fighting going on, to encourage people to finish and to not fight super conservative.

Just my two cents.
