why is android market saying that it cannot log me into my google account?

just got a new android phone, which i can use because my old phone was android, so when i go onto the market it says to me that there was a network error while trying to sign into [email protected] but every time i retry it says the same thing? also when i try to sign into google mail it says that it cannot connect to server (not trusted server certificate) please help :) thanks x
