I don't understand? What does having the right ear piered have anything to do with looking like a homosexual? Is there something in history that contributes to this? Or is it just the stupidity of people?

Please elaborate.
Well then why is that the symbol for being gay?
JoJo I'm sorry to offend your gay culture, I didn't mean to. It was just the wrong wording. I appologize.

i would figure it is stupidity. or a stereotype that came from a trend somewhere in the past where some gay men only pierced that one ear. stereotypes aren't fair but they do hold some truth normally

That is a persistent rumor, except opinion seems about equally divided about which side means you're gay.

Years ago getting the right ear pierced was a sign of homosexuality. Gays did it to distinguish themselves to one another. It began as a covert sign and as such isn't supposed to 'look... like a homosexual".

Back when homosexuality was first emerging into the light in western culture, it was seen almost as a crime. A homosexual man was seen as pretty much a plague on society, and would be ostracized faster than accepted. The homosexual community developed a common fashion where wearing an earring in a particular ear was a way for gay men to identify who it was safe to approach. Later, wearing an earring became fashionable towards straight men as well. When it became common knowledge that gay men wore the earrings in the right ear as a mark of sexual orientation, heterosexual men began wearing it in the left ear as a manner to "spite" homosexual men. To a certain extent that preconception still exists in some people's minds.

simply the stupidity of ppl. it's just a sign that has been accepted to mean gay. i always freak out whenever i see a guy w/ one in his right until i see his left. (it's been pierced every time lol) it's just our retarded culture

It's your left ear that is considered gay. It was considered bad luck. I don't know where you heard it was your right ear but you're wrong and everyone who said it was the right ear is wrong too.

"In the late 1960s, ear piercing began to make inroads among men through the hippie and gay communities.

In various Western cultures, piercing the left vs. the right ear alone has sometimes been popularly perceived to be associated with a particular sexual orientation. In the late 60's it was said that "left is 'wrong' and right is 'right'"; the right ear being safe for piercing by straight men and a pierced ear meaning one was gay.

In the 1920's a small male following continued to exist, particularly among sailors, for whom a pierced earlobe often meant that the wearer had sailed around the world or had crossed the equator. If a non-service member sailor was involved in and survived a sinking ship, they were often seen wearing an earring in the left ear." Wikipedia

People have beliefs and conceptions and ideas of things. People get used to this ideas and anything that falls outside of these ideas its often seem as wrong r against norm. If you live in a culture that is not prone to a lot of ornaments especially in man then a thing as simple as an earing may seem strange. People in the western world associate this strange behavior with being gay. I think what happened is that some people that where strait wanted to have an earing so, they came up with a rule which defines which ear is ga and which one isn't. As far as gayness or straitness goes, either ear would do. People some how agreed on one particular side. The whole concept is dumb because gay has to do with sex and not ornaments but, thats the way it is.

its not gay, look at all the celbs like chris brown he wears it in his right ear and hes not gay.

It's not about "looking homesexual". I guess it's just a symbol to show the world you're gay.
