Why is my cellphone not making/receiving calls?

My LG VX8300 will not make or receive calls. Since I got it nearly two years ago, it has occasionally turned off on its own, but I never really thought much of it since it would be fine when I turned it back on. I have checked the signal; it seems to be fine. Twice now I have also charged it fully, and it will not keep a charge. There seems to be a multitude of problems, and I am curious as to what is causing them. I've noticed, too, that it gets unusually hot when it hasn't been on long.

I'm not really worried about fixing it if I have to take it and let the techs deal with it as I've got less than a month before I renew my contract and get a new phone. Any ideas? Thanks.
 
The battery is probably shot, which is normal for any phone after about 2-3 years of use. The battery is generally the first part of the phone to wear out. I would just try to tough it out for the rest of the month or ask if you could upgrade early (I would let you if I knew what problems you were having with the phone.)
