Why is my new home theater buzzing only when reproducing Dolby Digital?

I bought an RCA RT2870 Home Theater in a Box today at Wal-Mart, brought it home, and hooked up my Xbox 360 to one of its optical inputs via a shiny new optical cable, and when I turned on the Xbox all I heard was a deafening buzzing noise. I checked in the audio options of my Xbox to make sure everything was set correctly (it was) and just for kicks switched the audio to Stereo instead of Dolby Digital, and the buzzing magically went away. Everything worked wonderfully in stereo, but when I switched back to Dolby Digital the buzzing started again.

In an effort to find what was wrong I restarted/reconnected both Xbox and Theater Receiver (no change), hooked up my PS3 instead (same problem), and tested out other input options on the Receiver (which worked fine). It was interesting that my PS3 exhibited the same phenomenon as the Xbox - any stereo audio played fine but Dolby Digital signals came out as a constant buzzing noise.

I would figure the decoder inside the RCA Receiver is dead, but when listening to music from my Zune through the line-in jack I am able to use its Dolby Digital emulation to get a decent 5.1 surround sound mix from my music. This being the first time I've hooked up a home theater system I figured I should ask around before exchanging it to make sure I wasn't missing something/making a silly mistake.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

I think your probably right, it's likely that there is a problem with your receiver, perhaps the cable. It might be best to try a new cable before you exchange your receiver.
