First off, go to Start Menu -> Run -> Type in the box, "cmd"

Afterward some window should pop out and you should type, "ping 192.168.0.1" (without quotes). If you see something like, "Fail," or something like that then your network card in your computer is malfunctioning and you should get a new one.

Otherwise, you must be connecting improperly. If you have a router (which I assume because you have wireless Internet), connect one ethernet cable from your computer into one of those 4 holes on the back of the router. Not the 2 isolated ones with spacings... the one jam-packed with 4 all together.

Worst comes to shove, call a technician. Hope it helps.

Usually a router works or it does't work. However, it really sounds like the router is dying.
Make sure the wiring is correct. Wire from the modem to the WAN slot on the router, then connect another wire between one of the LAN slots on the router to the slot in your computer. You might have it plugged into the wrong slot in the computer.
Finally bypass the router. Wire from the modem directly to the network slot on the computer. If this works the router is bad. If this does not work the network adabter on the computer is not working. I would think that you have the wrong driver for that network adaptor for Vista. Look at the makers website for the Vista driver.

Hi, I just installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my computer and everything was working fine. Then, all of a sudden my wired internet stopped working. Yesterday, it said that it wasn't connected to the internet, now it says there's no local network either.

I tried unplugging everything, restarting the modem and the computer, plugging the modem directly into the computer, but still nothing. Windows help hasn't done much either.

What's weird is that my wireless internet is working.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

hey,

well, it sounds like your lan port got disconnected

try this,

go to start - control panel (classic view) - device manager.

then look for network adapters and click on it. make shure every thing is enabled and you should be ok.
:) hope i helped.
