Why is religion more important than education?

I just read an article about the US suspending 2 Christian-based aid groups from going to Afghanistan. I immediately thought why no one is helping this "failed state" with their education system (math, science, history, language) but religion is seen as a top priority? What do you think about it? Why is religion more important than education?

Anyone who views education as less important than religion is a idiot. The needs of a normal human being are :
1. Survival
2. Education
3. Company
4. Chocolate, booze and french tango (nudge nudge wink wink, know what I mean, say no more!)
...

1052858. Religion.

You are reached a conclusion that needs examining. Afghanistan is a Muslim country who have different beliefs. "Christian-base" aid groups main goal is to convert others to their beliefs and this will undermine what the U.S. is attempting to do in that country.

Now, I am in complete agreement that an education is foremost more beneficial for our children than Religion. I am not saying that our children should not believe in God. I am however saying, our children should have the intellect to choose what belief they want instead of following blindly based on what someone else's religion dictates.

My God is happy when we use the intellect He has given us. We should enhance our intellect, by educating ourselves and use our God given right to as much education as possible.

To people of faith, religion is important.
To people of business, profit is important.
To government officials, national security is important.
Etc, etc, etc.
