Sorry for asking this question here, but I didn't get any responses in the education category.
I previously went to college in the US and Canada and got my degree there. Now I started doing a Masters in Australia and am absolutely stunned how strict the grading is. Many professors will just say that the average for their course is 60% and that's where they keep it no matter how good students are. So in Australia, 60% is a Pass. So most people will get a Pass at most. Fewer people will get a Credit and a D or HD is very hard to obtain due to their grading scales.
I am not used to that at all. As I said, I previously studied in North America and did an exchange semester in France. The grading there was by far not as strict. So the Australian grading doesn't really compare to international standards. In fact, it will look as if I was lazy. And the opposite is true. In the States or Canada I know many people that get 3.5 to 4.0 GPA's and don't do all that much work. Because the grading is much more lenient. Same in Europe.
