Why isn't my iPad showing up on iTunes?

I'm repeatedly plugging it in to my computer, but it doesn't come up on iTunes so I can sync some more music onto it.
It's definitely in all the way because it makes that odd noise when you plug it in.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

This happens to me with my ipod all you have to do is restart your computer then wait until everything completely loads up then open itunes then plug your ipad in and wait 2-5 mins for it to show up. HOPE THIS HELPS!
