My 2001 Ford Focus started squealing when the blower was on, whether it was a/c or heat and then a couple of days ago the blowing just stopped. I've had to replace the blower motor resistor switch twice over the past year or two. I read that if the blower motor resistor switch was going out that the blower motor was probably going out. Then I also read that if there was squealing then it was probably a problem with the tensioner (?). I looked but didn't see any visible damage to the belt. I realize it could be both problems but if anyone could point me toward the most likely and save me some time I would be thrilled. Anybody got any suggestions? On a 1 to 10 I'm about a level 3 mechanic of the worst kind (I'll tackle almost anything whether I know what I'm doing or not) so please be clear in your responses. Thanks a ton in advance.
-I'm not sure how to tell if the fan is electric or belt driven. I'll look into it and report back.
