Why isn't the rift working for me on Crono Trigger DS?

I've even done a walk through for this game, and the rift still isn't working for me. It just keeps spinning and playing the music, but not taking me to Truce Canyon like the walk through says it's supposed to. Is there a way to get the rift to work?
I figure it should only keep spinning for one minute, max; it's been spinning for 3 minutes. It's so weird...
