Why the hell did Rowling hook up Harry and Ginny? And Ron and Hermione?
Harry and Ginny have no chemistry, either in the book or movie. Ginny, in fact, is barely IN any of the books, and she makes little impression when she DOES show up. She has zip personality. We have no clue as to what Harry sees in her.
Ditto with Ron and Hermione. Some have said, oh, Hermione needs Ron because he makes her laugh, but that's a load of rubbish; all those two do during the entire book series is irritate each other. Plus, he's a slacker and she's driven, and that type of opposites isn't especially attractive. They also have zip chemistry. And that lack of chemistry is especially obvious on-screen. Radcliffe, Watson and Grint are terrific actors, but not even Watson and Grint can convince anyone that Hermione and Ron were made for each other. But Radcliffe and Watson do have chemistry. It made the scenes in the Half-Blood Prince movie where Hermione is whining to Harry about Ron really cringe-worthy.
Rowling can write good plots, but she's completely at sea when she writes about relationships. I hope the last two films don't dwell too much on the illogical romantic hookups she came up with, or they're going to be even more of a chore to watch than Half-Blood Prince.
To those of you who say that Ron and Hermione are "meant for each other" - how about elaborating? Again, they irritate each other throughout the entire series. She never laughs at his jokes. She constantly criticizes him. Is that the appeal? She's a dominant shrew and he needs a mommy to take care of him? Wow...how romantic.
