Why to people complain about the corruption of the government when we elect...

...the officials to begin with? I've seen and heard a lot of things about the government being corrupt and that politicians only follow money regardless of party, which for the most part is true. With this being said why do we(Americans) not do anything to stand up for ourselves? Why do we elect officials to work in our government (which in a democracy should work for us) who do nothing but screw over the common man en route to aiding big business and then complain about it only to elect another official to do the same thing?

I want a more decentralized government. Republicans tend to agree, but their leaders don't do anything about it and liberals abhor this idea.

What can you do except keep voting 3rd party and carrying the message? At least people are waking up and becoming disgruntled with Washington. Anger is at least acknowledgment of a problem.
