why, when i put a DVD rom in my computer and go to burn something it says

insert cd-rom? SO i have already put a blank DVD in and it is saying 'insert blank CDR or other'!!
On my hardrive it says DVD R/RW so i should be able to!!!! please help :D

It says "insert CD-R", or something else. It does NOT say "insert DVD-R or DVD-RW" or anything like that. You need a CD-R or CD-RW. CD-RW is your best option. RW means read/write which also means that it can be re-used.

Could be the drives for you Dvd writer try to update them in device manager

if that doesnt work uninstall it in device manager then reboot you pc and let windows reinstall it
if it came withe a cd put it in the drive windows will ask you for it

there are different types of CD's and DVD's.... there's CD-R, CD+R, CD+RW, CD-RW (same with DVD).... if you're using a CD-R, then try using a CD+R.... i hope this helps
