why wont my 87 vw cabriolet stay running?

I have a 1987 vw cabriolet automatic just purchased has 80k I am currently on a trip with the car into 1500 on trip fuel problems will not stay running. Replaced both fuel pumps,filter,injection pump is working runs for a while then shuts off any ideas what to check now?
 
Drain some gas and ck for water. If its that remember where you got gas last. You can remove the water with some gas dry poured in your tank or by draining the tank. Not sure if your car has a drain plug on the tank. May have to remove it. Ck the tank inside for rust also.
