will a blue ray player work with a tv that is NOT high definition?

the reason i am asking is that, i want to be able to play Netflix on a sdtv without having to use my wii in that room. and some of the blue ray players can play netflix now.
 
Obviously. PS3 for example.

But there's no point using a Blu-ray Player on an SDTV, because it'll look like DVD quality.

Yes, a Blu-Ray player will work with a SD television.

While a PS3 can work on a SDTV, it will not play blu-ray disks. A Blu-Ray player must be connected to an HDTV in order for it to work.
