240 watts apiece? I have a 2001 F150 and it has 4 6x8 speakers, one in each door. I just bought a new cd player for it and want to upgrade the door speakers as well. The 6x8s I am looking at have a max power handling of 240 watts, with 40w nominal. So will I be able to run four speakers without an amp? And no I do not care about using the entire 240 watts. And yes the speakers are 6x8, not 6x9s.

Yes I agree with the other two answers. Its not max handling that you want its the rms. I have a panasonic head unit in my 2004 F-150 that has 100watts RMS x 4 that powers 4 Pioneer 6x9s that are 125watts RMS each. Look at the side of the box on the aftermarket speakers it should say what rms power you put to them. Oh, and by the way, the same goes for amps, and subwoofers too. :)
