will a Gameboy (regular) and GB pocket gameshark work with Pokemon red and my GB SP?

Hi, I wanted to finally get those 151 pokemon in Red version, but i don't want to play two games and (possibly three) and trade between them. I bought a gameshark for sp and tried red version in it, but it turns out that it wouldn't fit. So I (no joke) wittled down the nubs on the inside to where the red cartridge would fit but it still wouldn't work. This was before i discovered that i needed an original gameboy gameshark to work with my Red version. However, before i buy one, I wanted to know if it would work in my Gameboy advance SP.
