No, the iPhone's case is too big. Plus the iPhone has a slightly different shape.

no the ipod touch 3 gen is a diffrent shape and is thiner so it would not fit.

sorta like a laptop fitting inside a desktop case...

but literally? no. the iphone case is WAY too big for the ipod touch.

No. The sides of the iPhone 4 are flat and the iPod touch has rounded edges, plus they are different sizes. It might work if you're referring to a flexible gel case, but I don't think it would fit well anyway.
