Will a region 1 dvd work on a english blu-ray player?

I have really gotten into a dvd series, but the series only goes up to a certain point in England. I wanted to buy the rest from amazon but it says the dvd is region 1. i was wondering if you could play that dvd on a english blu ray player or Xbox or playstation 2 (I understande that English Dvd players are region 2 but i wanted to knw if it worked on any of the things that i have listed)
