Will downloading the Sims 2 onto my laptop slow it down?

I used to play the Sims on my old computer, but now I have my old laptop I was thinking I might install it on there... But I'm worried that it will slow it down. My laptop has 1.00GB ''RAM'', i have no idea what that means - does it mean I have enough room for the game? My laptop has also just been fixed, I have literally hardly anything. Barely any music, no photos - all been wiped *sob* - so i should have a lot of free space, right?

Also I have a few - 6 - expansion packs, should I put them on or not? Or just one or two?
