Only modification to the audio system so far is a Kenwood eXcelon CD/MP3 reciever that cost me $200.
I have a '99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. The sound system in it right now is stock.

I listen to a wide range of music, but mostly rock, rap, pop, electronic, and some instrumental and vocal.

My friend is selling his system that be bought a year ago for $250. It includes a capacitor, a 1000W Kenwood amp, and two Dual (the brand) 650W subwoofers. It includes all of the wiring and he is willing to install it for free.

Now, I don't really want to drive around with my subs booming so the cops can hear me two blocks away. I just want higher quality sound coming from my audio system. Will subwoofers help?

Also, do you think the system he is selling for $250 is a good deal?

The Brand Dual is pretty cheap stuff, But if the Amp is 1000W RMS then I think the deal is worth it. Subwoofers will definitely Raise the quality of sound you can have them without cranking them up to obnoxious levels. They make Rock sound Great!!!

Yes, subwoofers can greatly improve the overall sound of your audio system. It enhances the overall sound by adding low end frequencies typical speakers will not produce effectively.

To be honest, your friends system is going to be a low-end one. Dual is not a good brand and they don't excel in high quality sound by any means. The bass that you will likely get from them is going to be loud but poor sound quality. If it is one of the systems that is in an enclosure with a plexiglass front then it will especially be bad at SQ.

I don't really think you are getting a good deal. Yes, you are getting a lot for the money but you are not going to be getting any high end equipment. You could slightly improve the sound of your audio system if it is set up correctly. However, unless you are looking for some loud bass in your car I don't think you should get it.

Good Luck!!!
