will the iphone for verizon compete for the price of the iphones from att / apple?

im getting an iphone.
dad said hes getting it when the iphone comes out for verizon and we'll get whichevers cheaper cause that verizon and att/apple will have a competition for the prices or whatever.
will it be the same price? or is my dad right?
i really want an iphone! haha which is why im asking
