Will using nail polish remover on my bike's petrol tank damage the paintwork ?

I need to remove the sticky residue left from a sticker, on my petrol tank. Will it be ok or will it damage the paint ? Cheers.

use a drop of wd40 instead, but I doubt it would do harm.

use a mix of fairy liquid and water, apply generously to the residue and leave for a few minutes then try to sponge off. I don't think that it would be wise to try nail varnish remover as it may damage the lacquer, even if it doesn't remove the paint.

A rag dampened in either meths or petrol..
this will not damage the paint or the finish
the solvent acetone used in nail varnish is similar to paint thinners or cellulose thinners and can damage surfaces
